A trip focused on the medieval history of the stunning tuscan hamlets, among intrigues and power games, myths, legends, secrets and mysteries. A trip especially taylored for the youngest, so to discover Tuscany from a completely different point of view.
Volterra, etruscan town , is nesting loads of stories full of magic and mystery. Beginning with the legend of the very first witch ever existed, Aradia, up to the famous witch Mandringa, linked to the homonym boulder, a giant rock that you can still nowadays see and where the water is sparkling. Even the narrow alleys of Volterra will evoque mysteries, such as the “Witch Alley”, “ The Lane of the Gypsies” , “The Alley of the Prisons”....etc...what was the meaning of these names?.
San Gimignano as well is just as good. Its antique medieval towers, which make this town world-wide famous, , are linked to stories and legends on the Devil. The Devil Tower, in the Cistern Square, as a matter of fact, its said to having been built by he himself! It seems that the tower has grown up so quickly of mmay meters and nobody could really explain how. But somebody else says it was built by the Templars....maybe they were also hiding some initiation secrets. As a matter of fact, in San Gimignano, you can find Templar symbols everywhere.
You can't skip going to Monteriggioni then,a medieval jewel still nestled inside its perimeter walls. This hamlet is so fascinating for its historical resistance, which ended up though in the XIVth century because of a betrayal which still nowadays hasn't been cleared up.
Monteriggioni was finally conquered by Florence, apparently because of the betrayal of Captain Zeti, whose soul ever since tormented in guilt, hasn't found rest and is still rambling in the underground alleys which from Monteriggioni lead to Siena.
The entrance to these underground alleys is from the well in the main square, which has been closed right to avoid anybody accessing it.
A really peculiar trip rich of anedoctes and curiosities.Ready for the mysteries. ?
